Materials Engineer

C&D TECHNOLOGIES, INC. is a publicly held, global, high-tech manufacturer of power storage devices and power supplies. We currently have an opening for a Materials Engineer in our corporate office in Blue Bell, PA.

The position of Materials Engineer is under the supervision of the Director of New Technology.  Plans and performs engineering assignments usually associated with materials research, design and development or as part of a major engineering project.  Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, utilizing knowledge and judgment in making adaptations and modifications to materials to assure that the technical goals of C&D Technologies are met.

Responsibilities:

Individual will be responsible for all aspects of material development, testing and documentation.  Works directly with New Technology Engineers, Product Development, Manufacturing and Quality to support new product development, scrap reduction and continuous improvement projects.

• Implement new materials testing techniques and further internal materials development capabilities. 
• Document and perform tests on materials as directed for new product introduction and/or process improvement under the requirements of the NSP System.
• Study and document the new and existing materials and make recommendations for improving reliability. 
• Support production through troubleshooting of material issues and related processes that are not meeting requirements and providing technical expertise.
• Study and recommend changes to materials and/or processes as directed.
• Study existing materials and design new / modified processes and materials as needed for new product development and or process improvement.

Requirements:

• Familiar with numerous materials testing techniques
• Knowledge of Six Sigma methodology and DOE
• Material processing knowledge
• Analytical skills for troubleshooting
• Technical writing skills, computer skills
• Quality Principles
• Travel may be up to 25%
