Health & Safety Supervisor
C&D TECHNOLOGIES, INC. is a publicly held, global, high-tech manufacturer of power storage devices and power supplies. We currently have an opening for a Health & Safety Supervisor in our Milwaukee, WI facility.
Summary:
Under general direction implements and evaluate Industrial Hygiene and Safety Programs for monitoring and controlling occupational health and safety hazards in the plant; provides technical counsel, advice and training to plant; provides staff support of plant execution of abatement programs. Ensures compliance with all governmental health and safety conditions
Responsibilities:
- Using specialized environmental testing equipment, regularly samples, measures, analyzes and records the level of in-plant conditions such as: lead-in-air concentration, heat stress, toxic or other dangerous gases in air, acid mist, smoke, non-lead dust in air, sound levels and noise exposure.
- Administers the respiratory protection program, including Quantitative Fit Testing and maintains respirator wear records.
- Manages the plant personal protective equipment and work clothing programs according to established standards and company policies.
- Monitors and records the performance of plant ventilation equipment.
- Investigates industrial injuries or illness in an attempt to identify causes and recommend corrective action.
- Recommends health and safety policies and procedures. Educates, motivates and trains line supervision and production personnel in good housekeeping practices, safe and healthful work procedures, proper uses of protective devices, etc.
- Observes operation of machinery, behavior of materials, work procedures, condition of premises, general housekeeping, etc. and report any hazardous or potentially hazardous situations and recommends corrective action.
- Accompanies visiting inspectors from federal, state and local agencies and from insurance companies as plant representative, taking notes on their findings and supplying information or assistance as may be required.
- Maintains records showing history of plant environmental conditions and other pertinent data as assigned, which has value in defining and averting health and safety problems. May prepare charts and graphs depicting patterns and trends.
- Conducts or assists in conducting safety and housekeeping inspections and assures appropriate follow up.
- Maintains current awareness of applicable health and safety regulations at the federal, state and local levels. Serves on plant safety and housekeeping committees and performs other duties as assigned.
- Conducts training sessions as necessary.
- Inventories and organizes all safety training materials.
- Photographs and/or video tapes material for training programs
- Maintains records regarding any certification of production employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in related field or equivalent with 5 plus years of health & safety experience.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment required.
