C&D Technologies Announces Introduction of New XTR Batteries for Mission-Critical UPS Applications
BLUE BELL, Pa., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- C&D Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: CHP) announced today that it has launched the new XTR(TM) battery for mission-critical uninterruptible power supply (UPS) applications.
"Over the last year, growth in the large 'mission-critical' data center segment of the UPS market has been very strong, driven by acceleration in the build-out of large new data centers in North America. With an approximate 20% annual growth rate over the last year and continuing momentum, these mission-critical UPS systems will consume over $60,000,000 in new battery units in 2006. C&D's newest UPS battery system, designated the XTR, provides more power in a smaller space by supplying twice as many cells per jar as our existing product. Floor space savings as high as 20%, combined with an 18% greater power density than competing battery systems, make this an exciting product offering to our customers," said Dr. Jeffrey Graves, President and Chief Executive Officer of C&D Technologies. "The XTR battery addresses over 50% of all mission-critical UPS applications we see for the future, and we anticipate that this product will have a positive impact on our participation in this fast growing market segment."
"The new XTR battery is part of the XT(R) Series of batteries built by C&D for over 25 years and is equipped with the same features that have established the C&D UPS battery as the number one in North America," indicated Leonard Kiely, Vice President and General Manager of the Power Systems Division. "Our initial feedback from end customers, consultants, and UPS OEMs has all been very positive, and we have already quoted several multi-million dollar jobs. We anticipate that orders for the new XTR battery will begin shipping in the fourth quarter of this year."
