C&D’s Jim Midolo to speak at Battcon 2025

C&D expert Jim Midolo will present a paper on August 6th at Battcon 2025 in Orlando. Battcon is a major technical conference for battery and energy storage professionals.
Midolo, C&D’s Technical Services Manager, is speaking to Battcon attendees at 7:40 AM in the Crystal Ballroom CDE.
His presentation, “Charging Lead-acid Batteries in Cycling Applications,” will include charging requirements and how to meet them, important parameters to consider, and charge termination strategies that will ensure batteries are ready when needed.

Abstract | Users of lead-acid batteries in standby applications are familiar with float charging, the typical method for keeping standby batteries ready for service. However, with the ever-increasing need for energy storage, users will need to become familiar with other charging methods used to maintain batteries used in cycling applications. Repeated use with limited charge times means batteries that are routinely cycled cannot be fully charged using traditional float charging. While the battery's charge efficiency is taken into account when sizing standby chargers, they typically take many weeks or more to fully restore the battery's capacity. In cycling applications, battery capacity must be restored in a short time, usually less than one day.
